Pharmacological Properties

Pharmacodynamic Propertie
Multibio is a combination of ampicillin and colistin antibiotics with dexamethasone, a steroid-based anti-inflammatory drug.
Indications / Uses
Multibio is used in lactating cows for the treatment of acute mastitis caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Enterobacter, and Escherichia coli, and for the treatment of the following bacterial infections associated with bacterial strains sensitive to the combination of ampicillin and colistin in cattle:
• Respiratory tract infections caused by Histophilus somni, Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida
• Digestive diseases caused by Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp.
• Genitourinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli, Pasteurella spp., Pseudomonas spp., and Fusobacterium spp.
• Septicemia caused by Escherichia coli
Dosage and Administration
MULTIBIO should be administered intramuscularly, unless otherwise recommended by a veterinarian.
Pharmacological dose: 10 mg ampicillin, 25,000 IU colistin, and 0.025 mg dexamethasone per kg body weight.
Practical dose: 1 ml (0.1 g ampicillin, 250,000 IU colistin, and 0.25 mg dexamethasone) per 10 kg body weight, intramuscularly once daily for 3 to 5 days.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
The product's safety during pregnancy has not been evaluated in the target species. It should not be used in pregnant or lactating animals.
In laboratory animals, parenteral administration of colistin has shown fetotoxic effects.
The use of corticosteroids in pregnant mammals may inhibit development and, when administered in late pregnancy, may induce labor or miscarriage.
Residue Withdrawal Time
Meat Withdrawal Time: Cattle should not be sent for slaughter less than 42 days after the last treatment.
Milk Withdrawal Time: Milk from treated cows should not be used for human consumption within 5 days (120 hours) after the last administration.
